Ho visto la loro sofferenza nella casa rifugio e sento Nathan che piange e si lamenta nel sonno. Mi sento impotente ed è terribile, da donna che ha speso tutta la vita aiutando gli altri. È stata la cosa più crudele che ho visto fatta a dei bambini in tutta la mia vita». Così Catherine Trevallion, mamma dei bambini della 'famiglia nel bosco', nell'incontro pubblico organizzato alla Camera dei Deputati dalla presidente della Commissione parlamentare per l’infanzia e l’adolescenza, Michela Vittoria Brambilla. È quindi intervenuto anche il padre Nathan Trevallion: «Non ci saremmo mai aspettati di dover vivere il dolore degli ultimi cinque mesi», «soprattutto al dolore dei bambini: la separazione dalla loro casa e dagli animali, poi dalla mamma: lo stress, l’ansia e il trauma, è stato tremendo dal punto di vista mentale ed emotivo. La loro gioia è stata distrutta. Noi genitori - conclude - siamo ancora più uniti nell’amore tra di noi e verso i bambini. Il nostro più grande desiderio è essere riuniti come famiglia».
