El nuevo presidente de Panamá acuerda con EE.UU. repatriar a migrantes
José Raúl Mulino prestó juramento el lunes como presidente de Panamá y se comprometió a impedir que los solicitantes de asilo crucen la peligrosa selva del Darién en su camino hacia Estados Unidos. El secretario de Seguridad Nacional estadounidense, Alejandro Mayorkas, estuvo entre quienes asistieron a la investidura presidencial. Mulino anunció un acuerdo con el Gobierno de Biden para deportar a los migrantes que sean detenidos en la región conocida como el “Tapón del Darién”, mientras que Estados Unidos se comprometió a ayudar a cubrir los gastos de transporte relacionados con la repatriación de migrantes.“Hoy, en otro contexto, la cifra de los inmigrantes ilegales que pasan por el Darién estremece. Además, los delincuentes internacionales usan esta región como su base de operaciones. Apelaré a la solidaridad internacional respecto de la causa que genera el problema. Y buscaré soluciones con los países involucrados, sobre todo con los Estados Unidos, que es el destino final de tales inmigrantes”, dijo Mulino en su discurso de toma de poseción.
