Skyroot Vikram-1 Launch LIVE: Mission Aagaman | Test Flight-1 | India's First Private Orbital Rocket

Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket is set to lift off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota as part of Mission Aagaman, a landmark launch for India's private space sector. The mission aims to demonstrate Vikram-1's orbital capabilities and marks a significant step in India's growing commercial space ambitions.

What is the Mission?

Mission 'Aagaman'---Sanskrit for "arrival", is India's first attempt to place a payload into orbit using a completely privately built rocket. The 20-metre-tall rocket called Vikram-1 is set to take off from Sriharikota, the same launch site ISRO has used for decades. But this time, ISRO didn't build the rocket. A startup did. The rocket is aiming for a 450 km Low Earth Orbit, carrying payloads from Indian startups like Grahaa Space and Cosmoserve, German company DCubed, and even a piece of space art called 'Cosmic Bloom'. Skyroot Aerospace, a private Indian company is trying to do what only government space agencies in India have done before — put something into orbit around the Earth.

Why Does It Matter?

Because it changes who gets to go to space. Skyroot has become the first company after ISRO to be able to launch rockets from India. Skyroot's CEO compares their model to booking a cab instead of taking a train. Today, small satellites hitch rides on big government rockets, going wherever the big mission goes. Skyroot wants to offer dedicated, on-demand launches — your satellite, your orbit, your schedule. If this works, India joins the US (SpaceX, Rocket Lab) in having a real private orbital launch industry. That means more launches, cheaper access to space, and thousands of jobs in a booming sector. And the human side? This launch represents the work of around 1,000 people, over 400 suppliers, and nearly 3,000 days of effort.

What is Skyroot?
Skyroot Aerospace is a Hyderabad-based space startup founded by Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka — both former ISRO engineers who left to build rockets on their own.

Their track record:

2022: Launched Vikram-S, India's first private rocket to reach space (a suborbital hop — up and back down)
2026: Now attempting the real deal: an orbital launch.

The company is valued at $1.1 billion and their rockets are named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India's space programme. Even former ISRO chief S. Somanath has joined them as an advisor.
