Penangkapan Noel menjadi sorotan karena yang dilakukannya bertolak belakang dengan pernyataan keras Noel agar para koruptor diberi sanksi hukuman mati untuk efek jera.
Bukan itu saja, Noel juga berjanji siap dihukum mati jika korupsi bila menjadi pejabat negara.
Pernyataan dan janji Noel tersebut kini kembali viral di media sosial.
Politisi PDIP, Guntur Romli, menyinggung kembali ucapan Noel beberapa tahun lalu yang mengusulkan hukuman mati bagi para pejabat yang terbukti korupsi.
Guntur Romli kepada wartawan, Jumat (22/8) mempertanyakan kesiapan Noel yang saat ini ditangkap KPK.
Guntur mengatakan kasus korupsi berupa pemerasan yang dilakukan Noel selaku Wamenaker ini adalah murni tanggung jawabnya sebagai pribadi dan tidak terkait dengan kebijakan pemerintah.
Menurut Guntur apa yang dilakukan Noel justru mencederai komitmen pemerintah atau Presiden Prabowo Subianto yang berulang kali menegaskan sikap antikorupsi.
Soal pernyataan dan janji Noel terkait koruptor harus dihukum mati itu, diungkapkan Noel pada 2020 lalu.
Saat itu isu perombakan kabinet Presiden Jokowi berkembang.
Noel yang merupakan ketua relawan Jokowi Mania atau JoMan, meminta Jokowi memilih mentero yang memiliki integritas tinggi.
Jokowi bahkan mengusulkan agar calon menteri menandatangani pakta integritas siap dihukum mati jika korupsi.
Noel bahkan menyebut Sri Mulyani sebagai contoh menteri yang bersih dan memiliki integritas sehingga layak menjadi teladan.
Namun kini Noel justru terseret dugaan kasus korupsi berupa pemerasan sertifikasi K3 ke perusahaan.
KPK mengamankan sedikitnya 14 orang dalam OTT yang dilakukan pada Rabu (20/8/2025) malam, termasuk Noel.
Namun KPK belum mengungkap berapa total uang hasil pemerasan yang dilakukan Noel.
KPK juga menyita 22 barang bukti berupa kendaraan mewah yang diamankan dalam OTT terhadap Noel.
Salah satunya ialah mobil bermerek Nissan GTR. Ada juga mobil BMW, Hyundai Palisade, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, hingga mobil Jeep.
Ada pula Vespa hingga motor sport Ducati.
