Every year, the festival of Dussehra or Vijayadashami is celebrated with great pomp and show across the country on the tenth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Ashwin. According to religious beliefs, Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day. Dussehra is also considered a symbol of the victory of good over evil. Vijayadashami is also celebrated as the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. Vijayadashami is also known as Dussehra or Dasara. In Nepal, Dussehra is celebrated as Dashain. Shami Puja and Aparajita Puja are also performed on the day of Dussehra.
