Typhoon Ragasa Makes Landfall in China, Wreaks Havoc in Hong Kong; Taiwan Mountain Lake Bursts |N18GSevere Typhoon Ragasa made landfall in Yangjiang, southern China, on Wednesday after hitting Hong Kong and Taiwan with strong winds and heavy rain. The storm caused damage, flooding, and evacuations. In Guangdong, nearly 2.2 million people were relocated, and railways were suspended. Schools and businesses were closed in at least 10 cities in southern China. Authorities allocated $49.2 million for disaster relief as the storm continued. Hong Kong reported over 100 injuries, and more than 860 people used shelters. In Taiwan’s Guangfu town, typhoon-triggered floods and landslides killed at least 14, injured 46, and severely damaged homes and infrastructure.
