let's investigate anti ownership companies together
# Let's Investigate stream## What is this?
"let's play" gaming streams seemed like a crazy idea in 1999 but became very popular. I want to try a new interactive format: "Let's Investigate", live research & documentation of consumer rights/anti-ownership violations.
## How this works!
### The current process
- Louis researches anti-ownership & consumer exploitation issues
- Louis documents findings on [consumerrights.wiki](https://consumerrights.wiki)
- Louis uses these wiki articles to make YouTube videos exposing anti-ownership company misconduct
### The new process
Instead of researching & writing by myself, I will write wiki articles on livestream, encouraging people to pipe in with good sources & insights to make the article better.
## Today's case is ***Futurehome***
https://www.futurehome.io/en_no/
https://support.futurehome.no/hc/en-no/articles/28158944965277-FAQ-Subscription
https://www.reddit.com/r/norge/comments/1lek0p7/futurehome_tvinger_eksisterende_kunder_over_til/?tl=en
Norwegian smart-home company Futurehome went bankrupt, got bought out, & announced a mandatory $117/year subscription. Customers who don't pay will have their purchased devices remotely disabled, including things that doesn't require company servers.
**The Goal** is to document this case according to Consumer Action Taskforce wiki standards, creating an article that exposes ransomware-as-a-service for what it is
## How you can help!
### During the Stream
- **Fact-checking**: Help verify claims & help me find additional sources
- **Research assistance**: Suggest related cases, legal precedents, technical details, etc.
## Join in!
Help me change consumer rights documentation from a solo activity into something we do together. Together, we can expose the companies working against consumer interests & build the knowledge base needed to fight back! The goal is to make a high-quality, properly-sourced wiki article that is both documentation & deterrent that shows companies that their anti-consumer practices will be exposed and recorded.
