Cámaras infrarrojas instaladas en el Parque Geológico Nacional del Bosque de Tierra de Zanda y otras zonas de la prefectura de Ngari, en la región autónoma de Xizang, han captado en múltiples ocasiones valiosas imágenes del leopardo de las nieves, especie catalogada como animal silvestre protegido de primera categoría a nivel nacional en China. Estos registros aportan datos clave sobre la distribución de la especie y fortalecen la monitorización científica de la fauna silvestre en la región.Desde octubre de 2025 hasta la actualidad, la Administración de Silvicultura y Pastizales de la prefectura de Ngari, junto con instituciones de investigación científica, ha llevado a cabo labores de monitorización a largo plazo en zonas como el bosque de tierra del distrito de Zanda. Según el balance preliminar, se han registrado más de 150 apariciones del leopardo de las nieves.
Estos animales habitan generalmente áreas de roca desnuda próximas a la línea de nieve, zonas de desierto alpino y praderas de alta montaña, a altitudes de entre 3.000 y 5.000 metros.
