Theo hòa thượng Thích Gia Quang của Ủy ban Thông tin và Truyền thông Trung ương, hướng dẫn nhấn mạnh các hoạt động như giảng dạy Phật giáo, phát triển kỹ năng (bao gồm bơi lội và sơ cứu) và các hoạt động giải trí.Những mục đích này nhằm mục đích thúc đẩy sự phát triển tâm linh và trách nhiệm công dân trong giới trẻ Phật tử, thúc đẩy những trải nghiệm tích cực bên cạnh việc học tập.
Cuộc tranh cãi gần đây tại chùa Ba Vàng liên quan đến tuyên bố về sự chiếm hữu trong quá trình giảng dạy, làm nổi bật các cuộc tranh luận về việc thực hành tâm linh trong các khóa tu.
