Activistas critican “La Odisea” de Christopher Nolan por rodar parte en el Sáhara Occidental ocupado

La exitosa adaptación de Hollywood de la antigua epopeya griega La Odisea se estrena hoy en cines de todo el mundo, en medio de crecientes llamados a boicotearla. Defensores de los derechos humanos cuestionan la decisión del director Christopher Nolan de filmar parte de la película en el Sáhara Occidental, un vasto territorio del noroeste de África que Marruecos ocupa desde hace medio siglo.

“Esta fuerza de ocupación está cometiendo un genocidio cultural contra el pueblo saharaui, una limpieza étnica”, señala María Carrión, directora ejecutiva del Festival Internacional de Cine del Sáhara Occidental. “Al no haber dicho nada durante un año y luego haber usado estas imágenes, Nolan se convierte, básicamente, en cómplice de la ocupación marroquí del Sáhara Occidental”.

En comunicación con Democracy Now! desde Argelia, el cineasta saharaui Abidin Mohamed Hamudi señala que no puede regresar a su casa en el Sáhara Occidental, pero Nolan “puede simplemente ir allí, filmar y ser cómplice de la ocupación de mi tierra natal”. Hamudi considera que es “una metáfora de cómo Occidente usa los derechos humanos, las narrativas democráticas cuando le conviene y luego las ignora en otras partes del mundo”.
