Fue el primero en aprobar leyes de emisiones de carbono, en imponer estándares estrictos de calidad del aire y es líder en la transición hacia los autos eléctricos.
Pero por otro lado, algunos pronostican que la gasolina en este estado podría alcanzar precios muy altos, hasta $8.43 por galón en 2026, es decir 75% más que los precios actuales. Esto significaría pagar casi el doble de lo que se paga en el resto del país. Por eso, aunque parezca increíble, tras años de combatir a los combustibles fósiles, ahora California quiere abrir miles de nuevos pozos petroleros en todo el estado. Pero ¿cómo llegó California a ese dilema de tener que elegir entre sus ideales ambientales y el costo de vida en el estado?
