"Si sta riproducendo lo scenario della Guerra Fredda e la cortina di ferro corre da Murmansk passando per il Circolo Polare Artico fino al Mar Nero. I Paesi che oggi sono sotto questa cortina di ferro, ambiscono ad accreditarsi come avamposti: delle teste di ponte degli Stati Uniti, in Europa. Nel 2004 i Paesi Baltici che prima facevano parte dell'Unione Sovietica e del Patto di Varsavia vennero inclusi nella #NATO. Fu proprio in questa occasione che l'ex Segretario alla difesa degli Stati Uniti, Donald Rumsfeld, parlò di contrapposizione tra Europa Occidentale e la nuova Europa, ovvero quella che comprendeva i Paesi Baltici.
