Menurut keterangan Departemen Luar Negeri, keputusan ini diambil untuk menjaga keamanan warga AS baik di dalam maupun luar negeri.
Dikutip dari Anadolu Agency pada Kamis (12/6/2025), pejabat Irak mengonfirmasi adanya evakuasi terhadap staf kedutaan AS yang dianggap tidak penting.
Namun, ia menegaskan tidak ada ancaman keamanan apa pun di Irak.
Pejabat tersebut menilai, keputusan Donald Trump adalah bagian dari prosedur diplomatik AS yang lebih luas di Timur Tengah.
Ia justru mengatakan bahwa keamanan di Irak semakin diperkuat.
Semua misi diplomatik Arab dan asing yang beroperasi di Irak bebas bergerak tak hanya di Ibu Kota Baghdad serta menikmati keamanan secara penuh.
Adapun evakuasi terhadap staf diplomatik AS di Timur Tengah ini terjadi di tengah buntunya perundingan nuklir dengan Iran.
Trump bahkan juga mengizinkan pasukan militer serta keluarganya yang tinggal di Timur Tengah untuk pergi secara sukarela.
Dalam wawancara di Washington pada Rabu (11/6/2025), ia menilai Timur Tengah bisa menjadi tempat yang berbahaya.
Trump sekali lagi menegaskan bahwa AS tidak setuju jika Iran memiliki senjata nuklir.
Komentarnya muncul setelah Menteri Pertahanan Iran Aziz Nasirzadeh mengancam akan menargetkan pangkalan militer AS di Timur Tengah jika terjadi konflik.
Namun, ia berharap situasi tidak akan memburuk.
