È durato cinque ore l'interrogatorio di garanzia di Valter Lavitola, accusato dalla procura di Roma di essere il mandante dell'attentato dinamitardo contro il giornalista Sigfrido Ranucci. «Ha confermato l'ipotesi accusatoria della procura della Repubblica ammettendo di essere stato il mandante dell'attentato», ha dichiarato il legale del faccendiere Sergio Cola all'uscita dal carcere di Rebibbia. «Ha risposto a tutte le domande», assicura il legale, che spiega anche che Lavitola avrebbe agito «per tutelare la incolumità di Ranucci, che era oggetto di parecchi e pericolosi tentativi di aggredirlo. Anche perché Ranucci, non aveva, all'epoca, una protezione, ma aveva solamente due uomini di scorta. Siccome gli attentatori, a modo di vedere di Lavitola, erano pericolosissimi lui l'ha fatto perché poi in effetti, dopo l'attentato la scorta è stata più che raddoppiata si è passata da due a otto agenti».
