Las barcas de piel de vaca milenarias avanzan hacia un nuevo futuro

Cuando el Festival del Bote del Dragón se encuentra con las tradicionales barcas de piel de vaca de Xizang, comienza en el río Lhasa la carrera de botes dragón a mayor altitud del mundo. Laba Tsering, heredero nacional de la danza de barcas de piel conocida como kuozi, impulsa su embarcación milenaria a través de las olas.
Como medio de transporte acuático tradicional en Xizang, las barcas de piel de vaca tienen una larga historia. En el siglo VII, los artesanos transportaban arcilla roja y piedra en estas embarcaciones durante la construcción del Palacio de Potala. También cuenta la leyenda que la princesa Wencheng cruzó ríos en una de estas embarcaciones en su viaje hacia Xizang.
Hoy en día, puentes conectan ambas orillas y modernas rutas de transporte se extienden por la meseta. Aunque las barcas de piel han pasado gradualmente de ser un medio de transporte a convertirse en protagonistas del patrimonio cultural inmaterial, siguen llevando consigo historias antiguas.
