While Houston's 15-0 start to the regular season thrust Olajuwon firmly in the MVP driver's seat, Robinson was gaining fast, leading the league in scoring while acting as his team's de facto playmaker in the process.
Alas, while his 71-point performance on the final day of the regular season may have been just the narrative to swing enough voter's into Robinson's camp down the stretch, it was all for naught, as MVP voting occurred on April 22, two days before Robinson's scoring title-winning outburst.
