Irán ha descartado la propuesta de Omán para la gestión conjunta del estrecho de Ormuz, lo que merma las esperanzas de un avance diplomático en esta vía navegable de vital importancia. La propuesta de Omán se inspira en el estrecho de Malaca, que está gestionado conjuntamente por Singapur, Malasia e Indonesia. Por otra parte, Arabia Saudí se ha sumado a EE. UU. en la realización de ataques en todo Irak contra milicias iraquíes. El Comando Central de EE.UU. afirma que los ataques iban dirigidos contra grupos militantes responsables de atacar a las fuerzas estadounidenses y a las infraestructuras saudíes, bajo las órdenes de Irán.
