Hablamos con la periodista ganadora del Premio Pulitzer María Hinojosa quien, extraordinariamente, logró acceder a un centro de detención del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE) en Colorado, donde entrevistó a la activista por los derechos migratorios Jeanette Vizguerra. En marzo, esta activista indocumentada, madre de cuatro hijos, fue arrestada por agentes federales en Denver. Desde el año 2009, Vizguerra viene logrando evitar la deportación gracias a su lucha, que la llevó incluso a refugiarse en una iglesia de Denver con sus hijos en 2017. En ese momento logró un aplazamiento temporal de su orden de expulsión, pero éste expiró en 2019 y ella volvió a refugiarse en una iglesia para evitar su deportación. Luego, durante el Gobierno de Biden, obtuvo otros aplazamientos, que también expiraron. Ahora se encuentra en la mira del Gobierno de Trump y su agenda de deportaciones masivas. Durante la entrevista, Vizguerra dijo: “Soy una presa política” y, en conversación con Democracy Now! Hinojosa enfatiza que ella “considera que no está detenida en una cárcel para inmigrantes por su estatus migratorio, sino por sus palabras y por su activismo”.
