SpaceX auf Abwegen: Diese Rakete kracht Mittwoch in den Mond

Eigentlich war die Mission ein Erfolg – doch jetzt endet eine SpaceX-Raketenstufe auf ungewöhnliche Weise. Nachdem sie zwei private Mondlander ins All gebracht hatte, blieb die ausgebrannte Oberstufe als Weltraumschrott zurück. Nun steuert sie auf den Mond zu und soll dort mit hoher Geschwindigkeit einschlagen. Der Aufprall dauert weniger als eine Sekunde und hinterlässt voraussichtlich einen rund 27 Meter großen Krater. Für Wissenschaftler ist das eine seltene Gelegenheit: Teleskope und Mondsonden sollen den Einschlag und seine Folgen genau untersuchen. Die Erkenntnisse könnten für künftige Mondmissionen und den Schutz von Astronauten wichtig sein.
