On January 17, India's budget carrier, IndiGo Airlines, was fined a $2.44 million penalty by the aviation safety regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), over flight cancellations and disruptions in December 2025. DGCA cited the overstretching of flight crew as the key factor behind the airline's operational meltdown across several airports in the country. The safety regulator also issued a warning to IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Isidre Porqueras. The fine includes one-time systemic penalties of $198,000 for multiple violations of Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs).
