My builder asked me to cut parts of my own sound isolation design.

I said yes.

But not to everything.

We went line by line through a Colorado backyard studio plan set and found three legitimate cost cuts, two details the builder actually improved, and one item I'm still not completely convinced about.

The important part isn't knowing what to cut.

It's knowing what you absolutely cannot cut without changing the performance of the room.

The roof cavity stayed.
The BIBS insulation stayed.
The decoupled ceiling stayed.
The critical airtight details stayed.

Everything else had to earn its place.

This is what real value engineering looks like when sound isolation actually matters.
