Uskup Timika soal Tambang Nikel: Raja Ampat yang Indah Hancur karena Ketamakan Oligarki | Daily
Dalam khotbah Pentakosta, 8 Juni 2025, Uskup Keuskupan Timika Mgr. Bernardus Bofitwos Baru, OSA mengecam keras penghancuran lingkungan di Raja Ampat. Ia menyebut sekitar 2.000 hektare tanah di Papua dibabat demi kepentingan oligarki yang rakus, dibungkus dengan slogan Proyek Strategis Nasional.“Ini Raja Ampat yang indah mulai hancur karena ketamakan dan kerakusan oligarki dan penguasa,” ujar Uskup Bernardus.
Polemik aktivitas tambang nikel di Kepulauan Raja Ampat mencuat. Salah satu yang disorot adalah PT GAG Nikel, pemegang izin tambang seluas 13.136 hektare di wilayah tersebut.
Isu ini menjadi sorotan setelah aksi damai dilakukan oleh aktivis Greenpeace Indonesia dalam acara Indonesia Critical Minerals Conference di Hotel Pullman, Jakarta, pada 3 Juni 2025.
Mereka menyuarakan kekhawatiran terhadap dampak lingkungan dan sosial dari aktivitas tambang nikel di Papua Barat Daya. Aksi ini viral di media sosial, memicu gelombang kritik dari publik yang khawatir “surga” Raja Ampat kian terancam oleh eksploitasi.
