In Europa werden immer mehr Elektrofahrzeuge gekauft, doch bei der Herstellung der wertvollsten Komponente, der Batterie, hat Europa nach wie vor Schwierigkeiten. Kann der Kontinent diesen Rückstand noch aufholen?Europa will bei Batterien und Rohstoffen unabhängiger werden. Dafür investiert die EU Milliarden in neue Fabriken wie die Verkor-Gigafactory im französischen Dünkirchen. Dort sollen Batteriezellen für Hunderttausende Elektroautos produziert werden.
Der Weg zu einer eigenständigen Batterieindustrie ist jedoch schwierig. Europa ist weiterhin auf asiatisches Know-how und importierte Rohstoffe angewiesen. Gleichzeitig sollen neue Lithiumprojekte in Europa helfen, die Abhängigkeit von China langfristig zu verringern.
