Wenn US-Präsident Trump über Chinas Staatschef Xi Jinping spricht, klingt das fast immer positiv: „Wir verstehen uns gut, mit China läuft es für uns sehr gut, Präsident Xi und ich haben ein gutes Verhältnis.“ Doch bei Xis Besuch im Weißen Haus mangelt es nicht an schwierigen Themen: der Handelsstreit mit gegenseitigen Zöllen, Chinas Unterstützung für den Iran, KI oder amerikanische Hilfen für Taiwan.Schon die Ankunft Xi Jinpings zeigte, wie wichtig Trump dieses Gipfeltreffen ist. Trump begrüßte Xi gestern Abend persönlich auf dem Militärflughafen bei Washington. Doch diese Bilder von der Ankunft des chinesischen Präsidenten bekam das US-Publikum nicht zu sehen. Weil Trump CNN und andere Medien aus dem Weißen Haus verbannt hat, boykottieren alle großen Sender sämtliche Auftritte des Präsidenten.
In der Nacht hat ein Richter angeordnet, die ausgeschlossenen Medien sofort wieder zuzulassen. Doch weil Trump dieser Weisung nicht nachkommt, findet die feierliche Begrüßungszeremonie vor dem Weißen Haus medial auch nur auf Trumps eigenem Kanal Trump TV statt.
