Rav Yaacov Haviv et Rav Richard Wertenschlag partagent leurs souvenirs de celui que Rav Ezra’hi (Roch Yéchiva de Mir) qualifia de l’un des Rabbanim les plus marquants et appréciés de notre génération : Rav Yaakov Halévi-Poultorak.Né à Paris en 1930, passé par la guerre et l’exil en Bretagne, diplômé en chimie à Paris, il choisit la voie de la Torah à Gateshead. Il y deviendra l’un des premiers Français à recevoir ordination rabbinique de Rav Lopian et Rav Gurwitz.
Éducateur visionnaire à Tanger, pionnier de la cacheroute industrielle en Europe grâce à ses compétences scientifiques, Dayan rigoureux à Lyon, fondateur d’un Beth Din régional respecté, aumônier militaire, bâtisseur de mikvaot, mohel dévoué, enseignant charismatique, faiseur de paix, homme de rigueur et de bonté.
Jusqu’à son dernier souffle à Jérusalem, il ouvrait sa porte à tous, croyant profondément en l’homme. Il vivait simplement, refusait l’argent et le kavod, et orientait sans relâche les âmes égarées vers le Derekh Hachem.
Son influence, discrète mais immense, a marqué des milliers de vies en France, au Maroc, au Canada, en Israël… et continue de résonner à travers ceux qu’il a guidés.
