Secondo l'ultimo aggiornamento dell'Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), nel 2026 gli Stati Uniti copriranno circa due terzi delle importazioni europee di GNL, contro un import russo via gasdotto crollato negli ultimi anni. Una dipendenza che, secondo le proiezioni dello stesso istituto, potrebbe arrivare all'80% entro il 2028. Sul fronte della spesa militare, i dati ufficiali NATO per il 2026 collocano l'Italia a 48,31 miliardi di euro, pari al 2,10% del PIL — cifra che, divisa per i giorni dell'anno, restituisce un esborso quotidiano superiore ai 130 milioni di euro.
Un quadro che il governo italiano difende come necessario: il ministro della Difesa Guido Crosetto, in audizione alle Camere dopo il vertice NATO di Ankara, ha respinto l'idea che gli investimenti nella difesa sottraggano risorse al welfare, sostenendo che "la sicurezza dell'Europa non è più un elemento garantito, stabile e sicuro". Una lettura che si scontra frontalmente con quella proposta ai microfoni di Un Giorno Speciale da Manlio Dinucci e Giorgio Bianchi.
