May day protests across europe: workers demand higher wages as costs surge
Thousands took to the streets across Europe on International Workers' Day, warning that rising living costs are forcing workers to fight for basic rights once again.From Greece to France and Madrid, demonstrators say wages are no longer keeping pace with inflation driven by conflicts in Ukraine and Iran.
In Athens, many say the legacy of the debt crisis, combined with the COVID-19 and rising energy prices, has pushed living standards into decline.
Protesters are calling for stronger labor protections, higher wages, and wider use of collective bargaining a system they say has weakened significantly in recent years.
