KOMPAS.TV - Tugas Gibran sebagai Wakil Presiden dalam percepatan pembangunan di Papua berlandaskan Pasal 68A UU Otonomi Khusus Papua (UU 21/2001 juncto UU 2/2021). Di sana diatur pembentukan Badan Khusus Pengarah Percepatan Pembangunan Otsus Papua yang diketuai oleh Wapres melalui Perpres No. 121 Tahun 2022.Tugas itu konsisten dengan penugasan serupa kepada Wapres terdahulu, yaitu Ma’ruf Amin, yang sempat berkantor dan memimpin percepatan di Papua pada Oktober 2023 selama beberapa hari.
Menko Kumham Yusril Ihza Mahendra menegaskan bahwa Gibran tidak akan pindah kantor permanen ke Papua; yang berkantor di sana adalah Sekretariat Badan Otsus Papua, bukan Wapres langsung.
