Between artificial intelligence and geopolitics, in this talk he discusses the growing algorithmisation of our lives, Europe’s problematic dependency on US digital platforms, and the need for the contintent to de-americanize as much as possible its technology uses and infrastructures, and he puts forth ideas on how to do that. «The nature of the big tech platforms we are using today is authoritarian, based as they are on surveillance and control. Technology that does not spy on us: that should be Europe’s digital difference», he says.Bruno Giussani is a writer, journalist and podcaster, author of «Our Minds Under Siege. How to Avoid Being Manipulated in the Age of AI» (forthcoming 1st June 2026). He also wrote "The Mind under Siege", an analysis of the social, political and cognitive impacts of algorithmic technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, and "Moins d’Amérique dans nos vies", on the need for Europe to reduce its dependence on the US technological ecosystem. He is a founding member of The Stealth Collective, a research group dedicated to studying the forces that shape contemporary life.
For almost 20 years, he was global curator and European director at TED, having been responsible for over a thousand TED Talks and for interviews with some of the world’s most influential figures. Previously, he was a columnist for The New York Times, led the digital strategy at the World Economic Forum and was a JS Knight Fellow at Stanford University.
