Соня преподает в школе русский язык и литературу, ведет театральный кружок, да еще и репетитором подрабатывает. А в городе Вязове живет семья Глеба Дорохова. Глеб женат на сестре Сони – Раисе.Наша история начинается с того, что Марина приезжает в Москву, а Денис - в Вязов. Причин на то много. Марине надо поступать в университет, учиться. А Денису давно пора браться за ум – Соня надеется, что Глеб займет его делом. Все бы ничего, но, похоже, есть тайна, которая долгие годы связывает две семьи. И причины, толкнувшие родителей обменяться детьми, вовсе не те, что кажутся. Не сразу, но постепенно, зритель начинает понимать, что Соня и Глеб настоящие родители Марины и Дениса. Но как получилось так, что долгие восемнадцать лет Соня была разлучена с дочерью, а Глеб с сыном? Это предстоит узнать только в самом финале истории...
