NASA’s 100-Mile Moon Base: The Insane Plan to Colonize the Lunar South Pole by 2032

NASA isn’t just planning another Moon landing, it wants to build a permanent foothold at the lunar south pole, one of the most valuable and contested regions anywhere beyond Earth.

This video explores NASA’s ambitious plan to establish a long-term base near Shackleton Crater by the early 2030s. The mission could involve dozens of launches, autonomous lunar drones, heavy construction rovers, nuclear power systems, and eventually a sustained human presence capable of surviving some of the harshest conditions on the Moon. The location is no accident. Shackleton Crater may contain enormous deposits of frozen water, while nearby peaks receive sunlight for most of the lunar year. Together, those resources could provide drinking water, oxygen, fuel, and energy for future missions deeper into the Solar System.

But NASA isn’t alone. China and Russia are pursuing their own lunar base through the International Lunar Research Station, potentially targeting the same south polar region. The next Moon race won’t just be about who gets there first, it may decide who controls humanity’s gateway to the rest of the Solar System.
