Aksi ini dilakukan sebagai bentuk dukungan terhadap keluarga sandera dan menentang pemerintah terkait rencana menduduki Gaza secara penuh.
Dikutip dari Anadolu Agency pada Selasa (12/8/2025), sejumlah perusahaan Israel sepakat untuk menghentikan operasinya selama pemogokan umum.
Channel 12 mengatakan rencana pemogokan itu diungkapkan dalam konferensi pers di Tel Aviv pada Minggu (10/8/2025), di mana para penyelenggara berjanji untuk melumpuhkan kehidupan publik.
Langkah ini akan memengaruhi layanan vital dan perusahaan-perusahaan besar, dengan seruan untuk partisipasi publik yang luas.
Pemimpin oposisi Israel Yair Lapid juga mendukung pemogokan umum ini karena berpihak pada keluarga sandera.
"Seruan untuk mengganggu perekonomian dibenarkan dan perlu. Kami akan terus mendukung upaya keluarga-keluarga yang ditawan," tulis Lapid di X.
Sebelumnya, Kabinet Keamanan Israel menyetujui rencana Perdana Menteri Benjamin Netanyahu untuk menduduki sepenuhnya Kota Gaza.
Keputusan ini memicu reaksi keras internasional dari pemerintah dan badan-badan hak asasi manusia.
Warga Israel yang hampir tiap pekan menggelar demo semakin marah karena Netanyahu dianggap tidak peduli dengan sandera.
Rencana untuk menduduki Gaza secara penuh dianggap hanya akan mengancam nyawa tahanan serta membuat militer kelelahan selama bertahun-tahun.
