This Swiss Village Was Voted the Most Beautiful in the Country
Watch this one on the biggest screen you've got — ideally a 4K TV — because the greenery in this video deserves it. Turn on subtitles too, I added extra context about Morcote along the way. There's a version of Switzerland most people never see, and it's hiding in the back streets of Morcote.
Forget the postcard shot by the lake for a second. Walk a bit further up, away from the crowds, and you land in a part of the village that's basically swallowed by greenery. Palm trees, cypress, vines climbing over every wall, gardens spilling out of courtyards and wrapping around old iron gates. It's not just "a village with some plants" — it's green everywhere. On fences, on houses, over walls, tucked into every corner someone could fit a flower into.
I was there in late May, a few hours after some rain, with that soft grey light you get on a slightly overcast day — around 19°C. Honestly, it suited the place. Made all that green look even deeper.
A lot of these gardens belong to houses that are clearly worth a small fortune, but nature doesn't seem to care — it just grows over everything anyway, patrician villas and all. And every so often, between two buildings, you catch a flash of Lake Lugano, sitting perfectly still in the distance.
There's no rushing through this one. It's a slow walk through narrow stone streets, past beautiful old houses, with nothing but birds and your own footsteps on the cobblestones. Genuinely one of the most peaceful places I've filmed.
