Sono 14 i piccoli venuti al mondo al parco Natura Viva, che ospita una colonia record di oltre 150 esemplari. E in questi primi giorni d’estate, quando ormai anche gli ultimi nati hanno superato il mese di vita, è avvenuto il passaggio collettivo dall’isola dei nidi all’area della nursery: qui i piccoli trascorreranno i prossimi mesi sotto la sorveglianza di individui più grandi, che che hanno il ruolo di veri e propri «baby sitter». Mentre i genitori torneranno a frequenza regolare per cibare ognuno il proprio piccolo, riconoscendone il verso tra tutti.Ancora ricoperti dall’inconfondibile «piumino» grigio e dalle zampe nere, i piccoli sono ben lontani dalle tipiche piume rosa e bianche dei fenicotteri adulti, che arriveranno solo dopo il secondo anno di vita. «Ora - spiega Camillo Sandri, direttore zoologico del parco Natura Viva - è arrivato il momento in cui mamma e papà fenicottero possono riprendere un po’ della loro routine quotidiana, dopo aver profuso tutte le energie nella cova dell’uovo e nell’allevamento delle prime settimane di vita dei pulcini.
