Suspect charged with attempted assassination of Trump after White House press dinner

We are learning more this Monday about the 31‑year‑old suspect who has been charged with attempted assassination after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend. Cole Tomas Allen made his first court appearance on Monday as he faces multiple federal charges. Authorities say Allen opened fire at a Secret Service checkpoint, injuring an officer before being subdued; the officer is expected to recover. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with Katie Barlow from our partners at FOX 5 DC as investigators cite a manifesto expressing anti-Trump views as key evidence in determining motive. LiveNOW is also speaking with former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani, as law enforcement officials says the suspect intended to target members of the Trump administration.

Allen is facing three counts, reportedly including, attempt to assassinate the president of the United States, which carries a potential life sentence; transporting a firearm across state lines, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine; and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years.
