#Awarapan2 brings back #EmraanHashmi as Shivam Pandit, nearly two decades after the cult classic #Awarapan. With #DishaPatani joining the sequel, does Awarapan 2 recreate the emotion, music and nostalgia that made the original a cult favourite?

If you're watching an Emraan Hashmi movie, good music follows, my brother.

Honestly, I really, really liked Awarapan, so I was super excited to see what Awarapan 2 would do with the emotional core of the original. And while this sequel isn't bad, it isn't great either. For me, it's a decent Bollywood movie that relies heavily on the connection audiences already have with the first film.

The biggest reason to watch Awarapan 2 is still Emraan Hashmi. His performance as Shivam Pandit, his demeanour and the way he channels the character's pain and anguish carry the movie. This is classic old-school Emraan Hashmi: a grey character beating people down, surviving twists and turns and delivering filmi dialogue over great music.

The movie is also shot really well, with stylish cinematography, filmi action and some strong action sequences, particularly in the second half. And once again, music and nostalgia are a huge part of the Awarapan experience. If you've missed the Emraan Hashmi of Awarapan, Jannat and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, this is probably the closest we've come to getting that version of him back in a long time.

But Awarapan 2 struggles when it moves beyond Emraan Hashmi. The new characters don't have enough depth, the romantic track lacks chemistry, and the main twists are so predictable that you don't need to be Sherlock to figure them out.

The villain feels more annoying than intimidating, while several supporting characters, including Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, aren't given enough material to make a lasting impact. Even the romantic track doesn't spend enough time developing the chemistry between Shivam Pandit's character and Disha Patani's character.

The first half also feels flat outside of the nostalgia and connection to the original. There are no new characters I felt deeply connected to, and that's ultimately what keeps Awarapan 2 from reaching the emotional heights of the first film.

So, is Awarapan 2 worth watching in theatres? Does Emraan Hashmi's return as Shivam Pandit live up to the original? And can nostalgia carry a sequel when the story doesn't quite match the first film?
