Pasalnya, pernyataan ini merespons kasus band Sukatani asal Purbalingga yang meminta maaf seusai membawakan lagu kritik terhadap oknum kepolisian.
Menurutnya, kebebasan berekspresi, termasuk melalui musik, dijamin oleh konstitusi Indonesia.
Ia mengingatkan bahwa hak tersebut tercantum dalam UU Nomor 12 Tahun 2005 tentang Kovenan Hak Sipil dan Politik.
Namun, Mafirion juga mengimbau agar kebebasan berekspresi tetap mematuhi norma sosial dan tidak merugikan pihak lain.
Meski begitu, ia menyayangkan tekanan yang dialami Sukatani hingga harus meminta maaf di media sosial.
Menurutnya, kritik yang disampaikan masyarakat seharusnya menjadi bahan introspeksi bagi aparat negara.
Kasus ini dinilai sebagai preseden buruk yang mengancam kebebasan berpendapat di Indonesia.
Terlebih, salah satu personel Sukatani, disebut kehilangan pekerjaannya sebagai guru akibat kontroversi tersebut.
Anggota DPR itu menekankan negara seharusnya melindungi warganya, bukan membungkam kritik yang disampaikan melalui seni.
