Turkey's main opposition party, the Republican People's Party, or CHP, is facing a widening crackdown. In March, Istanbul's mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, was arrested and suspended from office over corruption allegations. Imamoglu's arrest triggered a wave of mass protests. Since then, more than a dozen other CHP mayors and hundreds of their staff have been detained or jailed over similar allegations.
