Denuncian maltratos y muertes en cárceles del ICE de gestión privada en Nueva Jersey

A raíz de la tercera muerte ocurrida en la cárcel del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE) conocida como Delaney Hall, en Newark, Nueva Jersey, conversamos con Gabriela Soto, cuyo esposo, Martín Soto, fue uno de los líderes de la huelga de hambre llevada a cabo en mayo por internos de esta cárcel para inmigrantes. Mientras estaba en huelga de hambre, Martín fue trasladado al Centro de Detención Elizabeth, la otra instalación del ICE en Nueva Jersey. Gabriela demanda el cierre de ambas instalaciones.

Al mismo tiempo, el inmigrante salvadoreño Edwin López-Cornejo murió en Delaney Hall el 1 agosto, tras seis semanas de reclusión. Es el tercer inmigrante que muere en esta cárcel del ICE, que comenzó a operar en mayo de 2025.

Existen demandas judiciales por negligencia médica presentadas por más de 70 personas detenidas en Delaney Hall. Esa negligencia fue uno de los factores que llevaron a la huelga de hambre. Receive SMS online on sms24.me
