„Marsch der Lebenden“: Tausende erinnern an die Opfer des Holocaust
Alleine im Vernichtungslager Auschwitz-Birkenau ermordeten die Nationalsozialist:innen mehr als eine Million Menschen. Insgesamt wurden wissenschaftlichen Schätzungen zufolge mehr als 17 Millionen Menschen von den Nationalsozialist:innen und ihren Unterstützer:innen ermordet.Um an die Opfer des Holocaust zu erinnern, nehmen heute rund 6.000 Menschen im polnischen Auschwitz beim „Marsch der Lebenden“ teil. Angeführt wird der Marsch von rund 50 Holocaust-Überlebenden.
Aus Israel werden in diesem Jahr deutlich weniger Menschen teilnehmen als ursprünglich geplant. Erwartet werden zehn Holocaust-Überlebende.
Die Teilnahme von etwa 1.500 weiteren Menschen aus Israel, darunter ungefähr 50 Überlebende, wurde abgesagt. Als Grund nennen die Veranstalter Sicherheitsbedenken und Luftraumbeschränkungen infolge des Krieges in der Region.
