Studiare Ingegneria Informatica vuol dire non fermarsi alla teoria, ma imparare a costruire qualche cosa che prima non esisteva. Per fare questo ci vuole ovviamente rigore, disciplina, ma anche creatività e responsabilità.
Ma chi è un ingegnere? Chi è questo animale mitologico? La definizione più carina che mi hanno dato nel corso degli anni è: «Una persona che risolve i problemi leggendo i libri». Ed effettivamente questa definizione coglie due aspetti, da una parte imparare a trasformare un'idea in un progetto, un bisogno in un prodotto e dall'altra l'utilizzo del pensiero logico analitico e del rigore delle discipline come matematica e fisica. Però, non cattura altre due aspetti che sono: la creatività, perché ogni problema tecnico ha tante soluzioni e bisogna scegliere la migliore, e la responsabilità, perché ciò che un ingegnere progetta, ad esempio un modello di intelligenza artificiale, ha un forte impatto sul benessere delle persone e anche sulla sostenibilità ambientale.
