However, once Anandan enters politics and his popularity becomes an important political asset, the balance between the two friends starts changing.
Tamil Selvam understands the power of Anandan’s massive popularity and encourages him to use his cinema image to connect with voters. At the same time, Anandan begins to understand just how much influence he possesses beyond the film industry.
This creates one of the most fascinating aspects of Iruvar — the relationship between cinema stardom and political power.
During the election period, Anandan’s popularity becomes a major advantage for the political movement. Even after he is injured during a film shoot, the incident generates enormous public sympathy, and the party achieves a major electoral victory.
Following the election victory, a major leadership decision changes the relationship between Anandan and Tamil Selvam.
Tamil Selvam ultimately becomes Chief Minister with Anandan’s support. But Anandan expects a role in the government while also wanting to continue his acting career.
Tamil Selvam refuses to give Anandan the health minister position unless he gives up acting, creating a serious disagreement between the two friends. Anandan refuses to abandon his film career, and the relationship begins moving toward a deeper political conflict.
This is where Iruvar becomes much more than a story about two friends.
The performances of Mohanlal and Prakash Raj are at the heart of this section. Their chemistry changes as the story progresses, making every interaction more interesting because the audience knows the history between these two characters.
A. R. Rahman’s music, Santosh Sivan’s cinematography and the period setting further strengthen the cinematic atmosphere of Iruvar.
