Помощник нотариуса Рита живет в любви с мужем. Но никто, кроме мужа и отца, не знает, что у Риты врожденный порок сердца, и она может умереть в любой момент. Когда Рита в очередной раз попадает в больницу, к ней приходит любовница мужа, которая, как оказалось, ждет ребенка. Рита разводится, и проходит через операцию по пересадке сердца. Донор — молодая женщина Наташа. Муж Наташи Кирилл подписывает согласие на пересадку сердца жены. После этого Рите начинают сниться сны: двое детей, мальчик и девочка, которые зовут ее мамой… Понимая, что это в ней говорит сердце погибшей Наташи, Рита устраивается в ее семью репетитором, сближаясь с Кириллом и его детьми. А заодно уговаривает своего отца-полицейского помочь Кириллу узнать, почему на самом деле погибла Наташа…
