La fama di Padre Pio esplode con il miracolo di Michele Salvatore

La storia di Padre Pio comincia a circolare inizialmente tra i fedeli di San Giovanni Rotondo, che con il passaparola la fanno arrivare anche ai paesi vicini. Poi accade un episodio che farà esplodere il caso. Michele Salvatore, un contadino di 62 anni costretto a camminare con le stampelle a causa di una malattia alle gambe, che lui chiama nevralgia, decide di rivolgersi a Padre Pio, che ormai la gente del posto chiama “il santo”. Con una semplice benedizione della mano, Padre Pio lo guarisce. Il 29 giugno 1919 la notizia arriva sulle pagine de Il Mattino di Napoli, che dedica un’intera pagina al prodigio con il titolo: “L’uomo che fa i miracoli: Padre Pio, il santo di San Giovanni Rotondo, compia un prodigio in presenza del nostro inviato speciale”.
