Rekaman terbaru yang beredar pada Senin (29/9/2025), memperlihatkan terowongan kontroversial itu yang disebut sebagai proyek arkeologi.
Namun, para pengkritik menilai langkah itu sarat kepentingan politik untuk memperkuat klaim sejarah Israel atas Yerusalem, dan dapat mengancam keselamatan situs suci umat Islam.
Menurut laporan, aktivitas ini dianggap melanggar hukum internasional serta “status quo” yang selama ini mengatur kompleks Al Aqsa.
Salah satu proyek terbaru adalah peresmian terowongan “Pilgrims’ Road” oleh Perdana Menteri Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
Peresmian tersebut dilakukan di tengah meningkatnya perang di Gaza dan semakin seringnya kunjungan pejabat Israel ke kompleks masjid.
Langkah-langkah provokatif juga ikut memperuncing situasi.
Seorang anggota parlemen sayap kanan bahkan sempat mengibarkan bendera Israel di dalam kompleks Al Aqsa, sementara seorang menteri menyerukan pembangunan kembali kuil Yahudi di lokasi tersebut.
Pemerintah Palestina di Yerusalem pada Agustus lalu menegaskan bahwa Israel melakukan penggalian ilegal di bawah Masjid Al Aqsa dan menghancurkan peninggalan Islam.
Mereka juga menuduh Israel “secara sengaja menghancurkan artefak Islam yang berasal dari periode Umayyah, yang menjadi bukti hidup dan kesaksian nyata atas kepemilikan sah umat Muslim atas situs tersebut.”
