President Donald Trump has announced fresh 10% tariffs on US imports, after the Supreme Court of the United States struck down his earlier sweeping tariff measures in a 6–3 ruling on February 20. The court said Trump had exceeded his authority in imposing broad trade duties.The White House confirmed the new 10% duty will take effect from February 24 and remain in place for 150 days. Officials said even countries that have existing tariff agreements with the US will face the new baseline duty. However, exemptions have been confirmed for certain goods, including pharmaceuticals. Trump strongly criticised the top court’s verdict, saying he was “ashamed” of certain members and alleging foreign influence. On India-US trade ties, Trump said “nothing changes.” India will now face a 10% tariff on exports to the US, reduced from the earlier proposed 18%. Trump had originally introduced sweeping tariffs after assuming office, arguing they were necessary to address trade deficits and penalise countries continuing trade with Russia amid the war.
