Cornell Rape Cover Up: How An Ivy League University Buried A Sexual Assault Case | Vantage | 4k
The 2024 gang rape at Cornell University has now been reopened and the questions surrounding it are becoming harder to ignore. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed Attorney General Letitia James as a special prosecutor, saying new information has raised serious questions about how the case was handled. The woman, identified as Jane Doe in a civil lawsuit, alleges that she was assaulted at Cornell’s Chi Phi fraternity house. The seven accused men deny wrongdoing and have said the sexual activity was consensual.
But the controversy goes far beyond the allegations themselves.
There are questions over the original criminal investigation, a disturbing fraternity group chat, Cornell’s disciplinary response and whether the university did enough to hold those accused accountable. The local district attorney initially declined to bring charges, but later said he planned to pursue charges against the seven men.
Now, with a special prosecutor taking over, the spotlight is back on Cornell.
How does an alleged gang rape unfold inside an Ivy League university and what happens when the institutions meant to deliver accountability become part of the story?
This is the story of the Cornell 7, the allegations, the fraternity culture, the university’s response and the uncomfortable questions now confronting one of America’s most elite universities.
