Russian President Vladimir Putin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in India during the BRICS 2026 summit. After that reports have emerged that Iran is now buying the Geran-4 and the Geran-5 drones from Russia, as Tehran and Moscow look to deepen defence ties. There was a time when Russia relied on Iran for drones, with the Shahed drones entering Russia's arsenal in August 2022. Today, Iran is looking to buy the more advanced Geran drones to strike US bases. Both Geran-4 and Geran-5 are jet-powered kamikaze drones and are highly effective in combat. Along with this, Russia has repeatedly helped Iran, giving them satellite imagery, supersonic missile technology and other weapons, with the Su-35 on its way along with MANPADs.
