Pete Hegseth has heated exchange during Senate hearing
During a Wednesday hearing, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth engaged in a contentious exchange with Democratic senators over the Trump administration's decision to deploy 700 Marines to Los Angeles amidst ongoing anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests. Andrew Craft is getting the latest from Mike Brest from the Washington Examiner and asking about developments in the Middle East.In his opening statement before the Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, Hegseth reiterated how President Donald Trump charged him to focus on restoring "warfighting, lethality, meritocracy, standards and readiness" to the Department of Defense. "People will say that mobilization hurts readiness. When you talk to them, it actually improves their readiness," Hegseth said.
The State Department has also announced that it has ordered the departure of all nonessential personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad after its latest review and a commitment “to keeping Americans safe, both at home and abroad.”
