NEW YORK: 30 Millionen Dollar für einen Dinosaurier? Dieser T-Rex soll Geschichte schreiben!Das T-Rex-Skelett „Gus“ kommt im New Yorker Auktionshaus Sotheby's unter den Hammer. Das Fossil ist rund 67 Millionen Jahre alt, mehr als elf Meter lang und fast vier Meter hoch. Nach Angaben des Auktionshauses zählt es zu den größten und am vollständigsten erhaltenen Tyrannosaurus-Rex-Skeletten. Es besteht aus mehr als 180 fossilen Knochen und ist zu 61 Prozent vollständig.
„Gus“ wurde vor rund fünf Jahren auf einem privaten Gelände im US-Bundesstaat South Dakota entdeckt. Benannt wurde das Skelett nach dem Ranger, dem das Grundstück gehörte.
Die Auktion hat eine Besonderheit: Der Käufer erhält nicht nur das Fossil, sondern auch das Urheberrecht. Damit gehen auch Rechte an Reproduktionen auf den neuen Besitzer über. Laut Sotheby's wird ein T-Rex erstmals in diesem Komplettpaket versteigert. Der Schätzwert liegt bei bis zu 30 Millionen Dollar.
